Dass (ISO 639-3: dot) is an Afro-Asiatic language of the Chadic branch spoken by approximately 12,000 people in Bauchi State and Plateau State, Nigeria. The language is known by many names including Barawa, Lukshi, and Bandas, and comprises a cluster of closely related dialects including Dur, Dot, Wandi (Wangday), and Zumbul. Language Developers and Bible Translators produced the audio recording of the Gospel of Luke in the Dur dialect of Dass, which is. The Dur variety is one of the Durr-Baraza dialect subgroupings within the broader Dass cluster. The Dass-speaking community has Bible portions available in audio form across several of its dialect varieties, reflecting an effort to reach speakers in the form of the language closest to their everyday speech. The Global Recordings Network also maintains audio evangelism materials for Dass dialect varieties. The Dass people have some Scripture access but lack a full New Testament, and further translation work by Language Developers and Bible Translators is needed to serve this community more fully.
