Dass (ISO 639-3: dot) is an Afro-Asiatic language of the Chadic branch spoken by approximately 12,000 people in Bauchi State and Plateau State, Nigeria. The language is also known as Barawa and encompasses a cluster of mutually intelligible dialects including Dot, Dur, Wandi, and Zumbul. Language Developers and Bible Translators produced the audio recording of the Gospel of Luke in the Dot dialect — the variety from which the ISO code derives its name —. Each dialect recording serves a slightly different sub-community within the Dass-speaking population, recognizing that while speakers can understand one another across dialects, hearing Scripture in one's own specific variety has distinct value for comprehension, identity, and acceptance. The Global Recordings Network maintains additional audio resources for Dass dialect communities. The Dot dialect recording joins the Dur and Wandi Gospel of Luke recordings as part of a coordinated effort to blanket the Dass dialect cluster with accessible audio Scripture.
