Dass (ISO 639-3: dot) is an Afro-Asiatic language of the Chadic branch spoken by approximately 12,000 people in Bauchi State and Plateau State, Nigeria. Wandi (also called Wangday) is one of the primary dialect varieties within the Dass language cluster, alongside Dot, Dur, and Zumbul. Language Developers and Bible Translators produced the audio recording of the Gospel of Luke in the Wandi dialect,. The three separate Gospel of Luke recordings for the Dass language cluster — in the Dot, Dur, and Wandi dialects — reflect a strategy of reaching every sub-community with Scripture in the variety they speak most naturally. This approach is particularly valuable in oral cultures where subtle differences in vocabulary and pronunciation significantly affect how natural and accessible the Scriptures feel to listeners. The Dass people have Bible portions available across their dialect varieties, but a full New Testament or complete Bible translation remains a significant need for this community in northern Nigeria.
