Umiray Dumaget Agta New Testament (DUEWBT)

Overview

The Umiray Dumaget Agta New Testament, titled I bowon a pagpakikasungdu, was published in 1977 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1]. The translation work was supported by extensive linguistic research conducted by SIL linguist Thomas R. Macleod, who produced foundational studies of the language including a phonemic analysis and suggested orthography (1963), verb morphology studies (1964, 1972), and a sentence structure description (1969) [2][3]. Macleod also compiled the Umirey Dumagat Dictionary: English - Dumagat in 1980, which includes topical word lists [3]. The Umiray Dumaget Agta people are a Negrito group living along the Pacific coast of eastern Luzon from south of Baler, Aurora, to the area of Infanta, Quezon, and on northern Polillo Island [4]. This was the first translation of Scripture into the Umiray Dumaget Agta language.
