Eastern Bontok New Testament (EBKWBT)

Overview

The Eastern Bontok New Testament, titled Nan kalen apo Dios (Nan fiaru ay turag), was published in 2003 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1]. The translation project was pioneered by former Wycliffe Canada president Dave Ohlson and his wife Joan, who beginning in 1975 lived in Barlig, a village in the highlands of Luzon Island in Mountain Province [2]. When Dave became director of SIL Philippines in 1982, other translators continued the work [2]. Eastern Bontok (also known as Finallig) is spoken by approximately 6,000 people in the Barlig municipality area [2]. The local Fialikia Scripture Society was later established with trained local translators, and the complete Bible in Finallig was celebrated on May 28, 2022, nearly 50 years after work first began [2].
