English Bible (ENGAPE)

Overview

The Plain English Version (PEV) is a Bible translation designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians whose mother tongue is an Aboriginal language and who use English as a second language. The project began in 2003 and is a collaboration between Bible League Australia, AuSIL (Australian Society for Indigenous Languages), and retired Wycliffe translators. [1] The translation uses shorter sentences conforming to Australian Aboriginal language grammars, makes implicit information explicit, simplifies vocabulary, and restates figurative language literally. Key team members include Dave Glasgow (translation team leader) and Kathy Dadd (Wycliffe Australia / AuSIL). [1]
