Faiwol New Testament (FAIPNG)
Overview
The Faiwol New Testament, titled Got Weng Abem, was published in 1995 by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea in cooperation with Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] Faiwol is a Mountain Ok (Trans-New Guinea) language spoken in the headwaters region of the Fly, Palmer, and Murray rivers in Western Province, Papua New Guinea. [2] The translation serves a community of approximately 4,500 to 13,000 speakers across multiple dialect groups including Faiwol proper, Angkiyak, Wopkei, Setaman, Selbang, Dimtikin, and Kauwol. Language and People
Faiwol (ISO 639-3: fai) is a Mountain Ok language belonging to the Trans-New Guinea language family, spoken in the Star Mountains and surrounding lowlands of Western Province, Papua New Guinea. [2] Estimates of the speaker population range from 4,500 to 13,000, spread across several dialect groups. [2] [3] The Faiwol are closely related to other Ok-speaking peoples such as the Bimin, Telefol, and Tifal, who inhabit the mountainous interior of western Papua New Guinea near the border with Indonesia.
