Maasina Fulfulde New Testament (FFMWBT)

Overview

The Maasina Fulfulde New Testament was completed in 2005 after more than 15 years of translation work involving multiple organizations, including Wycliffe Bible Translators, the Norwegian Mission Society, and Christian Reformed World Missions [1][2]. Scott and Mary Crickmore, staff members of the Christian Reformed Church, produced the initial draft by using a computer program to adapt the New Testament from the Fulfulde dialect spoken in Senegal, after which a team of translators revised the text verse by verse and chapter by chapter [1]. Comprehension was tested by bringing translated passages to Fulani villages and asking local people to identify parts that did not sound natural [1]. The New Testament was dedicated on November 26, 2006, in Mopti, Mali, before an audience of approximately 400 people, including government officials and church leaders [1]. The translation made the gospel accessible for the first time to more than one million Maasina Fulfulde speakers in Mali [1].
