French Crampon Bible (1923) (FRABAC)

Overview

The Crampon Bible (La Bible Augustin Crampon) is a French Catholic translation of the complete Bible by Augustin Crampon (1826-1894), a canon and professor at the Catholic University of Amiens. [1] Crampon began translating from the original Hebrew and Greek texts in the 1880s, but died before completing the work. His translation of the New Testament was published posthumously in 1894, and the complete Bible first appeared in 1904, completed by colleagues including Père Albert Brassac. [1] The 1923 edition is a revised version that became the standard French Catholic Bible before being superseded by the Jerusalem Bible in 1956. [1]
