Overview

The Eastern Fulfulde New Testament, titled "Alkawal Kesal" ("New Covenant") in the vernacular, was published in 2015 by Wycliffe Bible Translators for speakers of Central-Eastern Niger Fulfulde [1][2]. The translation serves approximately 971,000 speakers across three people groups, primarily in Niger, including the Fulani of central-eastern Niger and the Wodaabe [1]. An audio version of the New Testament was produced in 2016 by Hosanna and is available through Faith Comes By Hearing [3]. The translation uses culturally appropriate terminology, including "Yeesu" for Jesus and "Almasiihu" for Christ, reflecting the influence of Arabic in the predominantly Muslim Fulani context [4]. Bible portions in this dialect had been available since 2006, but the 2015 publication marked the first complete New Testament [1].
