Nigerian Fulfulde Arabic Version (FUVTBLA)

Overview

The Nigerian Fulfulde Arabic Version is a New Testament translation in Arabic (Ajami) script, published in 2011 by Bible League [1]. It is a companion edition to the Latin-script version of the same translation, produced to serve Fulani readers who are literate in Arabic script rather than the Roman alphabet [2]. Since 2003, a standardized derivation of the Arabic script with 13 adaptations has been used to write Nigerian Fulfulde, and this translation follows that convention [3]. The translation uses culturally sensitive terminology, rendering "Christ" as "Almasiihu" (from Arabic al-Masih) and "Jesus" as "Yeesu," reflecting the predominantly Muslim context of the Fulani community in northern Nigeria [4]. Nigerian Fulfulde is spoken by approximately 14.5 million people across Nigeria, Cameroon, and Chad [2].
