Jaunpuri is a Northern Indo-Aryan dialect of the Garhwal division in Uttarakhand, India, spoken in the Jaunpur development block of eastern Tehri Garhwal district and around Mussoorie. Linguists classify it as a transitional variety between Garhwali proper and Jaunsari, with around 74% lexical similarity to Nagpuri Garhwali and its own rich oral tradition. Jaunpuri was historically written in the Takri script, though Devanagari is now more commonly used. New Life Computer Institute (NLCI), a Bangalore-based Christian NGO that has produced scripture in dozens of Indian languages and dialects, undertook the text translation, while Hosanna produced the audio recordings. The resulting complete-Bible audio edition, completed in 2025 and accessible through Faith Comes By Hearing, gives Jaunpuri speakers scripture in their own distinct dialect for the first time, complementing broader Garhwali resources and addressing the unique phonological features that separate Jaunpuri from standard Garhwali.
