Wipi New Testament (GDRPNG)

Overview

The Wipi New Testament (Wipi Yit God ma Yina Sisil Yina Peba) was published in 2001 by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea as the first Scripture translation in the Wipi language. The translation was carried out by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] Wipi, also known as Gidra, is a Papuan language of the Eastern Trans-Fly family, related to Gizrra, Meriam Mir, and Bine. [2] The Wipi people number approximately 3,300 and inhabit the inland territory between the Fly River delta and the south coast in Papua New Guinea's Western Province, primarily along the Oriomo and Binaturi rivers, with the village of Wipim serving as the central settlement. [2] [3] Today approximately 90% of the Wipi identify as Christian, and the community is considered significantly reached by mission organizations. [3]
