Patpatar New Testament (GFKTBL)
Overview
The Patpatar New Testament, titled "No Hinhinawas uta No Sigar Kunubus tano Watong" in the vernacular, is a 1997 translation of the New Testament and Psalms into the Patpatar language of Papua New Guinea. [1] Patpatar (also known as Gelik) is an Austronesian language spoken in New Ireland Province. The translation was carried out by Ed and Debi Condra, who joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1982 and traveled to Papua New Guinea to work among the Patpatar people on New Ireland Island. [2] [3] Ed Condra also published a Patpatar grammar in 1989 through SIL International. [4] Following the completion of the Patpatar New Testament, the Condras established the New Ireland Translation Institute (NITI) to train national translators, which grew to support 15 simultaneous language translation projects across the region.
