Gofa New Testament (Latin script) (GOFTBL)

Overview

The Gofa New Testament in Latin script (titled "Ooratha Caaquwa Goofatho" in the Gofa language) is a translation of the New Testament for the Gofa people of southwestern Ethiopia [1]. Completed in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., this edition uses the Latin alphabet and serves as a companion to the Ethiopic-script edition published the same year [2]. The Gofa language is part of the North Ometo branch of the Omotic language family and is closely related to the Gamo and Dawro languages, all spoken in Ethiopia's Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region [3]. The Gofa people, numbering approximately 698,000, are predominantly Christian, with over half identifying as Evangelical Protestant [4]. The translation is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license [1]. A complete Gofa Bible was subsequently completed between 2018 and 2022 [4].
