Gorontalo Today's Version (GORLAI)

Overview

The Gorontalo Today's Version (Kitabi Habari Mopiohe) is a New Testament translation in the Gorontalo language, published by the Indonesian Bible Society (Lembaga Alkitab Indonesia, LAI) in 2006, with a revised edition following in 2010. [1] Gorontalo is an Austronesian language of the Gorontalic branch, spoken in Gorontalo Province on the northern arm of Sulawesi island. [2] The translation uses a contemporary everyday language register, as indicated by the Indonesian subtitle "Sehari-hari" (everyday) in some editions. [3]

Language and People

Gorontalo (ISO 639-3: gor), also known as Hulontalo, is spoken by approximately one million people in Gorontalo Province, northern Sulawesi, Indonesia. [2] The language belongs to the Gorontalo-Mongondow subgroup of the Austronesian language family and is notably more closely related to languages of the central and southern Philippines than to other languages of Sulawesi.
