Eastern Oromo 2005 Edition (HAEBSE)

Overview

The Eastern Oromo 2005 Edition is the first New Testament translation specifically in the Eastern Oromo (Harar) variety, published by the Bible Society of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. [1] Eastern Oromo is one of several distinct Oromo language varieties; while the broader Oromo language has a Bible translation history dating to the nineteenth century -- J. L. Krapf's Oromo New Testament was published by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1876, and a full Bible followed in 1899 [2] -- those earlier translations were in other Oromo varieties. The 2005 Eastern Oromo edition addresses the specific linguistic needs of the Harar-region Oromo speakers. [1]
