Haitian Creole 1985 Edition (HATABS)

Overview

The Haitian Creole 1985 Edition, known as "Sent Bib" (Holy Bible), is a full Bible translation in Haitian Creole published in 1985. The translation was produced by the Societe Biblique Haitienne (Haitian Bible Society), a member of the United Bible Societies, with assistance from the American Bible Society. [1] Protestant missionaries had translated the New Testament into Haitian Creole by 1960, and the full Bible followed in 1985, making it a landmark publication for the Creole-speaking population of Haiti. [2] The translation represents a significant achievement in making the complete Scriptures accessible to Haitians, the vast majority of whom speak Creole as their primary language rather than French. An updated edition was subsequently released in 1999. [1]
