Hiligaynon Popular Version (HILHPV)

Overview

The Hiligaynon Popular Version, published in 1982 as Ang Biblia by the Philippine Bible Society, is a New Testament translation in the Hiligaynon (Ilonggo) language using a formal equivalence translation approach. [1] Hiligaynon is one of the major languages of the Philippines, spoken primarily in the Western Visayas region, particularly on Panay Island and in Negros Occidental. The Philippine Bible Society has produced Bible translations in all major Philippine languages, typically offering both a formal equivalence version (favored by conservative Protestants) and a dynamic equivalence version for each language. [2] For Hiligaynon, the 1982 Ang Biblia represents the formal equivalence tradition, while later editions such as the Maayong Balita nga Biblia (2012) and Ang Pulong Sang Dios (2022) provide dynamic equivalence alternatives.
