Tuivang Matu Chin Bible (HLTMCS)

Overview

The Holy Bible in the Tuivang dialect of the Matu Chin language of Myanmar. The Matu Chin New Testament translation was originally initiated by a Matu Christian named Lawngthang, who traveled repeatedly to India for translation workshops despite considerable difficulties. [1] Bibles International adopted the Matu language project in 1993 and the New Testament was published in 1998. [1] A revision project began in 2005 under chief translator Dr. Aung Htang, with trial editions of Acts and Romans printed in 2016 and a completed revised New Testament dedicated on April 1, 2023 in Yangon. [1] The full Bible text, including the Old Testament, is published by the Batupei Christian Fellowship (Matupi) and made available digitally through eBible.org and YouVersion. [2]

Language and People

Matu Chin (ISO 639-3: hlt) is spoken by approximately 40,000 people, primarily in Matupi Township, Myanmar. Although the Matu Chin people historically practiced animism, Baptist and Presbyterian missionaries introduced Christianity before World War II; today approximately 80% profess Christianity, with 44% identifying as evangelical.
