Today's Iban Version (IBATIV)

Overview

Today's Iban Version is a New Testament translation in the Iban language, spoken by the Iban (Sea Dayak) people of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. [1] The Iban are the largest ethnic group in Sarawak, and Christianity became a major religion among them following the work of the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM), founded in 1928 by students and staff at Melbourne Bible Institute in Australia. [2] The BEM prioritized Bible translation and pastoral training among the indigenous peoples of Borneo, and its work eventually led to the establishment of the Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB), now Malaysia's largest Protestant denomination. [2] The Bible Society of Malaysia published the Iban Bible, known as "Bup Kudus," in 1988, and an updated New Testament edition followed in 1999. [3] A later edition incorporating Deuterocanonical books was produced at the request of the Catholic Church for Iban-speaking Catholic communities. [3]
