Indonesian: Easy-to-Read Version (INDERV)

Overview

The Indonesian Easy-to-Read Version, known in Indonesian as Perjanjian Baru: Alkitab Mudah Dibaca (AMD), is a New Testament translation in Bahasa Indonesia published by Bible League International. [1] It is part of the Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) series originally developed by the World Bible Translation Center (now Bible League International), which produces translations in over 30 languages designed to communicate Scripture in clear, simple, everyday language. [2] The Indonesian ERV was first published around 2003. The translation follows the ERV methodology of rendering meaning in natural, accessible language rather than following a strictly literal word-for-word approach, making it suitable for new readers, seekers, and those unfamiliar with traditional religious terminology. [2] Indonesia has a long history of Bible translation beginning with Albert Cornelius Ruyl's translation of the Gospel of Matthew in 1629, and the AMD joins a number of Indonesian-language versions including the widely used Alkitab Terjemahan Baru (1974).
