Ikwo Bible 2014 Edition (IQWWBT)
Overview
The Ikwo Bible is a complete Bible translation in the Ikwo language, an Igboid language spoken by approximately 371,000 people in Ebonyi State and parts of Cross River State in southeastern Nigeria [1]. Ikwo forms a dialect cluster with the closely related Izii, Ezza, and Mgbo languages, though they are only marginally mutually intelligible [2]. Translation work for the Ikwo New Testament began alongside parallel efforts in the related Izii and Ezaa languages, with expatriate translation-consultant teams working simultaneously on all three [3]. The Ikwo people received their New Testament in 1980, followed by a trial edition of the Old Testament [1]. The complete Ikwo Bible ("Bayịburu Ikwo") was distributed in 2012, and this 2014 edition was published by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. in cooperation with the Abakaliki Literacy and Translation Trust [4].
