Western Juxtlahuaca Mixtec Mark (JMXWBT)

Overview

The Western Juxtlahuaca Mixtec Mark, titled San Marcos Mixteco de Coicoyan de las Flores, is a translation of the Gospel of Mark into Western Juxtlahuaca Mixtec (also known as Coicoyan Mixtec), an Otomanguean language spoken by approximately 20,000 people in the municipalities of San Martin Peras and surrounding areas in the Oaxaca and Guerrero states of Mexico [1][2]. The linguistic documentation of this Mixtec variety was carried out by SIL linguists Bruce and Candice Beatham through the Instituto Linguistico de Verano [3]. This Gospel portion was published in 2021 by Wycliffe Bible Translators in collaboration with Liga Biblica Internacional, making it the first published Scripture in this language [1][2].
