Overview
The Kannada Revised Version Bible is the Indian Revised Version (IRV) of the Holy Bible in Kannada, a Dravidian language and one of the scheduled languages of India. [1] Published in 2019 with a 2017 copyright by Bridge Connectivity Solutions Pvt. Ltd., it is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 4.0 license, making it one of the few freely licensed full Bible translations in an Indian language. [1] [2] Bridge Connectivity Solutions produces Indian Revised Version translations in multiple Indian languages as part of an open-access initiative to provide Scripture to Indian language communities. [2] Kannada has a long history of Bible translation beginning with the Serampore missionaries, whose New Testament manuscript was destroyed in a press fire in 1812; the first published Kannada New Testament appeared in 1823, and the complete Bible was issued in 1865. [3] The IRV Kannada represents a modern continuation of this tradition, covering all 66 books of the Protestant canon.
