Overview

The Xaasongaxango 2006 Edition is a New Testament translation in the Xaasongaxango (Khassonke) language, published by the Bible Society in Mali. Xaasongaxango is a Manding language spoken by the Khassonke people, a sub-group of the Mande in western Mali. [1][2] The Khassonke are predominantly Muslim, and this New Testament represents an effort to provide Scripture access to one of Mali's larger language communities. [1]

Language and People

Xaasongaxango (ISO 639-3: kao), also known as Khassonke or Kassonke, is a Manding language spoken by approximately 714,200 people primarily in the Kayes Region of western Mali and in eastern Senegal. [1][2] The language is closely related to Bambara and is classified as an official language in Mali. [2] The Khassonke people are descendants of the Fula and Malinke Khasso kingdoms, and their homeland, known as the Khasso, historically comprised several small chiefdoms and kingdoms in western Mali.
