Iwal New Testament (KBMTBL)

Overview

The Iwal New Testament was published in 1984 by Wycliffe Bible Translators and dedicated in Morobe Province in 1985. [1] The translation work was supported by linguistic research conducted by Ian Davidson and Doris Davidson of SIL, who produced foundational grammatical studies of the Iwal language in 1976. [2] Iwal (also known as Kaiwa) is an Austronesian language spoken by approximately 1,900 people across nine villages in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. [1] The New Testament was distributed by the World Home Bible League (Liga Biblica Mundial del Hogar).

  • Ian Davidson and Doris Davidson — SIL linguists who authored "Essentials for Translation: Iwal Language" (1976), a 57-page grammatical study that provided foundational analysis for the translation project. [2]
