The Mamusi New Testament is a translation project for the Mamusi-speaking community of Pomio District, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. The Mamusi, who have long desired Scripture in their heart language, began training and translating the New Testament in 2016, starting with the Gospel of Luke. Two translators from a single village initiated the work, and the team expanded to include members from multiple villages, with a steering committee representing nearly the entire language area. SIL PNG — which has partnered in completing New Testament translations in over 220 languages across Papua New Guinea — provides training in translation principles, equipment for the Mamusi Translation Center, and logistical support. A Mamusi Scripture App including the Gospel of John with audio and a 14-day reading plan is available for Android devices, and a JESUS Film in Mamusi was completed in November 2020.
