Nukna Ruth and Mark (KLTHBP)

Overview

This publication contains the books of Ruth and Mark translated into the Nukna language of Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea, with the vernacular title Rut na Mak long tokples Nukna [1]. The translation was published in 2013 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, with additional Scripture portions (including Luke and Acts) completed by 2017 [1][2]. The translation work was carried out by Matt and Christy Taylor, who began partnering with the Nukna people in 2004, performing linguistic analysis, developing an alphabet for the previously unwritten Nukna language, creating literacy materials, and translating Scripture portions [3]. The Nukna people number approximately 1,600 and live in seven villages between the Sari and Timbe Rivers in the Sarawaget Mountains of Morobe Province, with an additional coastal village at Bit [4]. A Nukna Grammar Sketch was produced by SIL International, and organized phonology data was published by Matt Taylor in 2021, supporting the translation effort [5].
