Konni 2004 Edition (KMAWBT)
Overview
The Konni 2004 Edition is the first New Testament translation in the Konni language, spoken by the Koma people of northern Ghana [1]. The Koma inhabit five isolated villages in the West Mamprusi district of Ghana's Northern Region, an area with no road access [1]. The translation was produced through a partnership between the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT) and Wycliffe Bible Translators, with the New Testament dedicated in 2006 [2][3]. The translation project was managed by Konlan Kpeebi, who led the Koma translation team [2]. GILLBT, a Ghanaian Christian organization and member of the Wycliffe Global Alliance, grew out of work begun by Wycliffe linguists at the University of Ghana in 1962 [3]. Building on this New Testament, the complete Koma Bible was launched on June 22, 2024, after 37 years of translation work, with 5,000 copies printed for the community [2]. Audio recordings of the Konni New Testament have been distributed via solar-powered Proclaimer devices, which have been particularly effective for the predominantly oral Koma community [4].
