The Bible in Kosraean (KOSEFB)
Overview
The Bible in Kosraean is a full Bible translation in the Kosraean (Kusaiean) language of Kosrae island in the Federated States of Micronesia. Bible translation work on Kosrae began with the arrival of American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) missionaries, notably Benjamin G. Snow, who arrived on Kosrae on August 23, 1852 and established the first Christian mission on the island. [1] Snow published several translations of New Testament portions from 1862 until his death in 1880, printed in Honolulu, including a translation of the Acts of the Apostles (Orekma lun met sap) published by the Hawaiian Board in 1869. [2] By the 1870s, virtually the entire island had converted to Christianity. [1] The American Bible Society published a Kusaiean New Testament in 1902. [3] Elizabeth Baldwin completed a full Bible translation in 1928, which the American Bible Society printed in 1953. [4] A revised edition, Bible Mutal, was published by the Bible Society of Micronesia in 1976, with a 2006 digital edition released through eBible.org. [4]
