Korafe New Testament (KPRTBL)

Overview

The Korafe New Testament, titled God Da Geka Seka, was first published in 1984 as a translation of the New Testament into the Korafe-Yegha language of Oro Province, Papua New Guinea [1]. The translation was the work of Jim and Cindi Farr (James B. Farr and Cynthia J. M. Farr), who served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea for 37 years, beginning in 1972 [2][3]. The Farrs also produced the Korafe-Yegha Dictionary and translated the Gospel of Mark into the Tafota dialect of the Baruga language [4]. The Korafe-Yegha language is spoken by approximately 6,900 people across two main dialect groups (Goto and Northern) in Oro Province [5]. Cindi Farr passed away suddenly in January 2008 at age 61; at her funeral, the Korafe community departed from traditional mourning customs, reflecting the impact of the translated Scriptures on their understanding of faith [2]. A revised digital edition with additional Psalms content was released in 2023 under a Creative Commons license [6].
