Doromu-Koki New Testament and Ruth (KQCWBT)
Overview
The Doromu-Koki New Testament and Ruth, titled Sei di Uka Ago Ruaka, was published in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators for the Doromu-Koki-speaking community of Central Province, Papua New Guinea [1]. The translation project was guided by Robert L. Bradshaw, a Senior Linguistics Consultant and Translation Advisor with SIL International who served in Papua New Guinea for over 35 years and holds working proficiency in the Doromu-Koki language [2]. Bradshaw conducted a dialect survey that identified three Doromu-Koki dialects (Koki, Kokila, and Origo) and determined the Koki dialect as the most suitable basis for the translation due to its central position and mutual intelligibility [3]. The completed New Testament was dedicated in September 2018 in a celebration featuring traditional dancing, singing, and instruments, attended by community members and international supporters [4]. Bradshaw's extensive linguistic work on the language also produced a comprehensive grammar and the Doromu-Koki-English Dictionary (2021) [2]. The language community numbers approximately 2,000 speakers in the Inland Rigo District, about 80 kilometers east-southeast of Port Moresby [3][4].
