Kandas New Testament Portions (KQWWIN)

Overview

The Kandas New Testament Portions, titled Buk Baibel long tokples Kandas (also published as A Wakak na Wasiso Anun o God), were first published in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators for the Kandas-speaking community of New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea [1][2]. Kandas (ISO 639-3: kqw) is an Oceanic Austronesian language spoken on the southwest coast of southern New Ireland, in the villages of Danop, Kait, King, Palangot, Semalu, and Watpi [3]. The language is classified as endangered, as it is used as a first language by all adults but not by all younger speakers [4]. The Kandas community numbers approximately 500 people, with Christianity adopted by an estimated 95% of the population [3]. The translation was published by Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia and is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license [1].
