Gbaya (Kresh) Sudan New Testament (KRSWBT)

Overview

The Gbaya (Kresh) New Testament was completed in 2019 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. Bible portions in the language were published between 2003 and 2014. [1] The Kresh (also called Kparla) people number approximately 50,000, inhabiting Western Bahr el Ghazal State in South Sudan. Unusually for the region, the Kresh are approximately 83% Muslim with a 17% Christian minority. [1] Their language, Gbaya (ISO: krs), is a Central Sudanic language. Translation work was part of a broader Wycliffe commitment to South Sudan that began in the 1980s but was repeatedly disrupted by decades of civil war.
