Overview

Genesis, Mark, Galatians, and 1 Timothy in the Kurti Language of Manus Province, Papua New Guinea. Kurti, also known as Ndrukul, is an Oceanic Austronesian language spoken by approximately 3,000 people on the north coast of Manus Island, one of the Admiralty Islands of Papua New Guinea [1][2]. The language is classified within the Manus East branch of the Oceanic language family and is vigorous, with use across all domains and age groups [2][3]. Bible portions in Kurti were translated between 1999 and 2004 and published in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [3][4]. The Kurti language also serves as a second language for the neighboring Elu people, giving these Scripture portions wider reach in the region [5]. Speakers maintain a 50% literacy rate in Kurti and the language is taught in primary schools [3].
