The Word of God (KYBNUA)
Overview
The Butbut Kalinga New Testament, titled "Nan Ukud Apudyus" (The Word of God), was completed in September 2016 after local translators began the translation process in the early 2000s [1]. The Butbut people originate from five villages in the municipality of Tinglayan, Kalinga Province, in Central Northern Luzon, and the Butbut Kalinga language is one of approximately 30 dialects spoken in the region, with around 15,000 speakers [2][3]. The dedication ceremony incorporated traditional cultural elements, with thirteen women carrying harvest baskets filled with Bibles and thirteen men carrying torches, symbolizing village unity [1]. The hardcover edition was published by the Translation Association of the Philippines and Bible League International, printed by the Philippine Bible Society, with 3,000 copies produced [3]. Old Testament translation is now underway, with work progressing on books including Genesis, Exodus, Ruth, Judges, 1-2 Samuel, 1-2 Kings, Ezra, Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Joel, and Obadiah [2]. Christian churches thrive in all Butbut areas and are actively contributing to the ongoing translation efforts [2].
