Kaakye Scripture Portions — GILLBT (KYEGIL)

Overview

The 2022 Kaakye Scripture resource was produced by the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT), Ghana's leading national Bible translation organization. GILLBT was founded in 1962 as SIL International's first work in Africa and has since grown into an independent Ghanaian organization that has translated the Bible into 35 Ghanaian languages and developed orthographies and literacy materials for dozens more. GILLBT developed an orthography for Krache using the Latin alphabet specifically for this Bible translation project, making the Kaakye the primary beneficiary of a systematic linguistic and translation effort. The 2022 resource offers both audio and visual Scripture content. Kaakye is a North Guang language spoken in the Krachi West and Krachi East districts along the Volta River in the Oti Region of eastern Ghana — a region that was historically remote and underserved by mission activity until twentieth-century efforts reached it.
