Bible in Lugbara (LGGBSU)

Overview

The Bible in Lugbara is a New Testament translation in the Lugbara language, first published in 1966. Lugbara (also called Lugbarati) is a Central Sudanic language of the Eastern Moru-Madi group, spoken in the West Nile region of northwestern Uganda and in the Orientale Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. [1] The language was first written by Christian missionaries in 1918, based on the Ayivu dialect. [1] The Africa Inland Mission (AIM) played a significant role in the West Nile region, sending mainly Anglican missionaries under a special arrangement negotiated by Bishop Willis. [2] The Italian Verona Mission and AIM entered the area soon after 1914. [2] In 2000, a conference in Arua established a standardized international orthography for Lugbara. [1]
