Today's Lun Bawang Version (LNDBSM)

Overview

Today's Lun Bawang Version, known as Bala Luk Do, is the first complete Bible translation in the Lundayeh (Lun Bawang) language, published by the Bible Society of Malaysia in 1982. [1] The Lun Bawang (meaning "people of the land") are an Austronesian people indigenous to the interior highlands of Borneo, found in Sarawak (Malaysia), Sabah (Malaysia), North Kalimantan (Indonesia), and Temburong District (Brunei). [2] The Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) played a central role in bringing Christianity to the Lun Bawang, first entering the Trusan valley in 1938 and finding a community already transformed by indigenous spiritual renewal. [3] Before and during World War II, missionaries taught, baptized, translated Scripture portions, and appointed local church leaders. [3] The majority of Lun Bawang today are Christians, predominantly of the Sidang Injil Borneo (Borneo Evangelical Church). [2] The Bala Luk Do was the first published material written entirely in the Lun Bawang language. [1]
