Malayalam Contemporary Version (MALMCV)

Overview

The Malayalam Contemporary Version (സമകാലിക മലയാളവിവർത്തനം) is a full Bible translation in Malayalam published by Biblica. Originally released in 1997 as the New India Bible Version (NIBV), the translation uses a dynamic equivalence approach that prioritizes natural Malayalam expression for modern readers. [1] [2] The translation has been revised twice, with updated editions in 2017 and 2020. [3] It is used among the approximately 37 million Malayalam speakers concentrated in the state of Kerala, India. [1] Malayalam has a long history of Bible translation, beginning with the translation of the four Gospels from Syriac into Malayalam by the Malankara Syrian Christian monks Ittoop and Ramban around 1807.
