Mam Huehuetenango North (New Ortography) (MAMBSG)
Overview
The Mam Huehuetenango North (New Orthography) is a 2011 New Testament translation in the Northern Mam dialect, published by the Sociedad Biblica de Guatemala (Bible Society of Guatemala). [1] Mam is a Mayan language with three major dialectal divisions: Northern Mam, spoken in the department of Huehuetenango; Southern Mam, spoken in Quetzaltenango; and Central Mam, spoken in San Marcos. [2] The designation "new orthography" (nueva ortografia) indicates that this edition uses an updated spelling system, as Mam orthographic conventions have been revised over time to better represent the language's phonology. An earlier Mam Bible for the Huehuetenango region was published in 1993 by the Bible Society of Guatemala. [3] This 2011 edition provides an updated orthographic rendering of the New Testament for Northern Mam speakers.
