Mam is a Mayan language belonging to the Mamean branch of the Mayan language family, spoken by approximately half a million people in the Guatemalan departments of Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, San Marcos, and Retalhuleu, as well as in the Mexican state of Chiapas [1]. The Comitancillo dialect, also known as Central Mam or Western Mam, is centered in the municipality of Comitancillo in the San Marcos department of Guatemala, where approximately 99% of the population is of Maya-Mam origin [2]. The New Testament in Mam Comitancillo was first published in 1998 by Sociedad Biblica Internacional, with subsequent editions in 2003 by Sociedad Biblica Internacional and in 2006 and 2009 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [3]. Audio recordings of the translation were produced in 1999 by Hosanna, recorded by Asociacion Vina, the Guatemala-based audio recording studio that grew out of SIL's Central America Branch in the mid-1980s and has produced dramatized audio New Testaments in numerous Guatemalan indigenous languages [4]. The translation is titled "Ak'aj tu'jil tyol qMan" in the Mam language [3].
