Overview

New Testament in Manobo, Sarangani. The Sarangani Manobo New Testament, titled "Se kaling peokit," was published in 1982 by Wycliffe Bible Translators after approximately 20 years of translation work [1][2]. The principal translator was Carl D. DuBois, a specialist in descriptive linguistics from California, who along with his wife Lauretta was commissioned by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1962 and sailed to the Philippines to begin work among the Sarangani Manobo [3][4]. DuBois produced extensive linguistic resources for the language, including "Sarangani Manobo: An Introductory Guide" (1976) and a comprehensive Sarangani Manobo dictionary [5][6]. Bible portions in the language were produced between 1967 and 1985, with the New Testament completed in 1982 [7]. The Sarangani Manobo are a Southern Manobo group residing in the Municipality of Glan in Sarangani Province, the Municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental Province, and the Municipality of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental Province [8]. Following the completion of the Sarangani Manobo New Testament, the DuBois family relocated in 1987 to begin a second translation project for the Tagabawa people [3].
