Mbula-Bwazza (MBUEBL)
Overview
The Mbula-Bwazza Bible is a partial Bible translation in the Mbula-Bwazza language (ISO 639-3: mbu), containing Old Testament portions from Genesis through 2 Samuel along with most of the New Testament. Published by The Seed Company in 2022, it serves the Mbula-Bwazza-speaking community of northeastern Nigeria. [1] An earlier New Testament translation was completed in 2016, with Scripture portions available as early as 2008. [2] The translation is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 4.0 license and is available on multiple digital platforms including YouVersion and as a mobile app. [1]
Language and People
Mbula-Bwazza is a Jarawan language spoken in Adamawa State, Nigeria, in the Numan, Girei, Song, Shelleng, and Demsa local government areas. [2] The language community numbers approximately 142,000 people. [2] The Jarawan languages are a group of languages with debated classification, with some scholars placing them alongside Zone A Bantu languages and others classifying them among non-Bantu Bantoid languages. [3] Mbula-Bwazza is a dialect cluster that includes the Bwazza and Mbula (Mbula, Tambo, Kula, Gwamba) varieties. [3]
