Makaa New Testament (MCPWBT)

Overview

The Makaa New Testament is the first New Testament translation in the Makaa language, a Bantu language (classified as A83) spoken by approximately 230,000 people in the eastern region of Cameroon, primarily in the northern part of the Haut-Nyong department [1][2]. The translation was the result of 36 years of work by Dan and Teresa Heath of SIL International/Wycliffe Bible Translators, who began linguistic analysis in the late 1970s and published a phonology of the Makaa language in 1982, collaborating with three different Cameroonian translators over the course of the project [3][4]. Bible portions in Makaa were first published between 1997 and 2003, and the completed New Testament was published in 2014 [1][5]. The translation is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license and is available with audio produced by Faith Comes By Hearing, as well as the JESUS Film dubbed into Makaa [5][6].
