The Central Melanau audio scripture resource produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators brings the Word of God to speakers of Central Melanau, an Austronesian language spoken by approximately 155,000 people in the coastal lowlands of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. The Melanau are considered among the earliest settlers in Sarawak and live in the low-lying swampy coastal region, predominantly in towns and villages around Mukah, Matu, Daro, Dalat, and Bintulu. [1] Bible portions in Central Melanau were first produced in 1980, and Wycliffe Bible Translators has worked to extend scripture access through audio recordings. [2] Audio scripture is especially significant for this community given that a complete written New Testament has not yet been reported as completed.
