Merey New Testament (MEQWBT)

Overview

The Merey New Testament, titled Dzam Weɗeye, is a New Testament translation in the Merey language (ISO 639-3: meq), published in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1]. Merey is a Chadic language of the Afro-Asiatic family spoken by approximately 33,000 people in the Far North Region of Cameroon, primarily around the Méri massif west of the town of Méri in the Diamaré department [2][3]. Translation work on Merey Scripture began in the later 1980s, when Beat Haller, a translator working on the neighboring Zulgo language, assisted a Merey speaker in adapting the Zulgo New Testament text into Merey [1][4]. Bible portions in Merey were completed between 1986 and 2006, followed by the full New Testament in 2012 [2]. SIL International has also developed linguistic resources for the language, including the Merey lexicon and dictionary [4].
