Overview

The Ndǝshiguˈyar Foɗǝu Ənga Thlǝr Camaˈyar is a New Testament portions translation in the Marghi South language (ISO 639-3: mfm), published by The Seed Company in 2024. The translation contains 24 of the 27 New Testament books, excluding Mark, Acts, and Romans. Marghi South is a Chadic language of the Afro-Asiatic family spoken by approximately 166,000 people in Borno and Adamawa states in northeastern Nigeria. [1]

Language and People

Marghi South is classified within the Biu-Mandara branch of the Chadic languages. [1] Its dialects include Hildi and Wamdiu. [1] The language is spoken in Askira-Uba local government area of Borno State, and in Mubi and Michika local government areas of Adamawa State. [1] Marghi South, Marghi Central, and Putai form a language subgroup within the broader Margi cluster. [2] Translation work in the Marghi South language has been supported by organizations including ITDAL (Initiative for the Development of African Languages), based in Jos, Nigeria. [3]
