Mabaan 2002 Edition (MFZBSS)

Overview

The Mabaan New Testament was published in 2002 by Serving In Mission (SIM), providing Scripture in the Mabaan language for the approximately 88,000 Mabaan-speaking people of South Sudan. [1] Bible translation work among the Mabaan people dates back to 1947, when the Gospel of Mark was translated by G.A. Morrow and Z.F. Morrow of the Sudan Interior Mission, together with mother-tongue translators Wana Panta and Wazgo Birka, and published by the British and Foreign Bible Society. [2] That Gospel of Mark was the first book of the Bible in the Mabaan language. [2] Following the 2002 New Testament, a Mabaan pastor worked for twenty years to translate the Old Testament, resulting in the completion of the full Mabaan Bible, which was celebrated by the Bible Society in South Sudan. Translation History

The first Scripture in Mabaan was the Gospel of Mark, translated by SIM missionaries G.A. Morrow and Z.F. Morrow with Mabaan co-translators Wana Panta and Wazgo Birka, published in 1947. [2] The 2002 New Testament edition represented here built on decades of subsequent translation work by SIM in South Sudan. After this New Testament was completed, a Mabaan community pastor led the effort to translate the Old Testament over a further twenty-year period. [3]
